In May 2015, Yana and Slav moved from their space on 6th September Street in Sofia to Deadhorse, Alaska, the northern edge of North America, to face what was likely the greatest challenge of their lives: a cycling expedition to the southernmost tip of the world in Ushuaia, Argentina. Guided by their cause, Cycle4Recycle, along the way they gave numerous presentations and introduced people to their lifestyle and their solutions to the environmental problems caused by the overproduction of single-use plastic packaging. And they lived those solutions: they reused found materials, organized a mobile bakery and restaurant, sold postcards illustrated by Yana, and successfully completed their three-year expedition on a minimal starting budget.
Bicycle Adventures is a story about human willpower, kindness, ingenuity, skill, and resourcefulness, about the (preservation of) hope, and about the support the world offers us in the face of great challenges – a story that can serve as a source of inspiration for people of all ages.
The book – both text and illustrations – is based on the seven notebooks Yana filled during the journey, and the included QR codes lead to galleries of photos and videos corresponding to each chapter.
