Black Sea Dialogues holds a special place in our project—and not only on the most visible, ecological level. Beyond its environmental message, however, the book also addresses other important themes.
It consists of 83 short poetic prose texts and 83 original underwater photographs by the author himself. The work is marked by a deep admiration for Mother Nature and reflections on the complex relationship between modern humans and the natural world, as well as with their own inner selves. It conveys a sense of reverence “for this beautiful world of tranquility, where eternity speaks its own language—the language of silence.”
The book is suitable for all age groups and holds a special appeal for children by revealing to them the secrets and beauty of the sea while teaching them a unique form of communication. The author seems to converse silently with marine creatures, thus creating a tone of harmony between human and non-human beings—one based on mutual respect, understanding, tolerance, and love. It is amusing for adults, insightful for children, and never didactic.
“The sea taught me to set my own boundaries,” says the author, Mihail Zaimov. Born in 1967 in Sofia, Zaimov studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is a visual artist, television host of various cultural and journalistic programs on Bulgarian National Television, journalist, publicist, and writer. A passionate traveler, he has made a name for himself as an underwater photographer, with numerous exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad, as well as with his muchacclaimed photo album The World of Tranquility. In this book, he combines his love for writing and photography in a unique way.
